Tampa Bay Sports Update: This Week in Tampa Bay Sports

If Tampa Bay is known for doing something right, it’s sports. But the best thing about Tampa Bay sports is the local fans. Because even when we are not winning (I’m looking at you, Tom Brady), sporting events are still highkey fun times. And with teams like Tampa Bay Lightning and The Rays making championships, there’s never a shortage of wins around the corner. Here’s a look in Tampa Bay sports this week:

Brady and Brees: A Matchup Everyone Has Been Waiting For

It’s no secret the Chiefs are Tampa Bay rivals. Every year, in the era before COVID-19, fans would gather in the stands for home games against Kansas City. Now, we are all still watching but with two big differences, social distancing, and Tom Brady. Fans are eager to see the matchup between Mahomes and Brady.

This is even more exciting because the Bucs are going to the Superbowl and facing off with the rival in a Superbowl game. Will they win? By the time you are reading this, we may already have an answer, but the energy in Tampa Bay right now is hopeful, positive and we are ready to stand up for our NFL team.

We’re standing by for the Superbowl game as we look ahead at this week in Tampa Bay sports.

WWE Announcement

COVID-19 has caused arena events to make some changes. Namely, sporting events that require lots of people in close quarters need to go to states that downplay COVID risks. Since it cannot host the event in it’s normal city, Los Angeles, California, the WWE has announced it will be holding WrestleMania events in the coming years in Tampa and Dallas, among a small group of cities.

COVID Uncertainty Impacts Rays Spring Training

The Tampa Bay Rays have been told they can report for spring training in their Tampa Bay and Arizona home bases…. But here’s the catch, they may not be able to. The league is still planning to open back up on April 1st, but like everything else right now its so tentative, and can change at a moments notice. Fans are left waiting to see if Rays will pick up again in the Spring as hope for herd immunity and vaccinations is on the horizon for Spring.
